With most learnings moved online with the coronavirus pandemic, the learning capabilities of the rural province may have been compromised.

Year by Year

Here are the matric pass rates for KwaZulu Natal from 2016-2019. Including an educated prediction for the 2020 matric pass rate.

2016

KwaZulu Natal, alongside Gauteng, had the most bachelor passes. However, they were only able to reach a matric pass rate of 66.4%.

This was also the year where the most matriculants in South African history wrote their exams. This record stayed unbroken until the November exams in 2020.

2017

2017 saw the matric pass rate of KwaZulu-Natal climbing to 72.8% overall. Again, it was one of the provinces with the highest bachelor degree pass rate.

2018

2018 saw yet another improvement for the province. This was the year that the matric pass rate raised to 76.3%.

As a rural province, the climbing of the results was well received.

2019

Remaining mostly the same, the matric pass rate in 2019 took a slight fall 76.2%. Even though it was reduced by 0.1%, the province was unable to achieve an increase in its pass rate this year.

2020

Jan Badenhorst, the CEO of Skills Academy was asked to weigh in on his 2020 academic prediction for KwaZulu-Natal. Jan said the following:
