Year by year

Here is how the Eastern Cape province performed from 2016 until 2019 

2016

In 2016, the Eastern Cape performed as the province with the lowest pass rate in South Africa. The Eastern Cape had a pass rate of 63.3%

2017

In 2017, the Eastern Cape achieved a 2.5% incline, giving the Eastern Cape a pass rate of 65.8%.

2018

This year, the province had a massive improvement moving from 65.8% in 2017 to 70.6% in your 2018.  The Eastern Cape had finally moved into the 70 percentile range.

2019

The Eastern Cape achieved yet another increase this year, moving from 70.6% to 76.5%.

2020

Here’s what educational specialist, Jan Badenhorst says, “I think the Eastern Cape will take a small dip down to 73%, because of all the disruption of the covid-19 lockdown. There has been a lot of additional help for the 2020 matric students, with things like free TV lessons and free study guides from the Department of Basic Education.”
